Mike Ferger

Mike and his wife Mary were married in 1965 and came to Merritt Island at that time, where he was on the opening faculty of Merritt Island High School. He still frequently substitutes there following his retirement and many times has met the children and grandchildren of his first students. He was a Brevard County Teacher of the Year,  one of five finalists for State of Florida Teacher of the Year, and was named State of Florida’s Spanish Teacher of the Year.  He has been the organist/pianist at Grace since 1976. He serves as the contact person between Grace and Bástate Mi Gracia, which is our sister church in Cuba, and has been there 12 times, eight times leading a mission group from Grace. He and Mary have four adult children, two sons and twin daughters, all of whom live with their respective families in the Orlando area. He likes to travel, is active in the Florida Retired Educators Association, is a two-time past president of the Central Brevard Chapter, and volunteers two or three evenings each week in the hospital Emergency Room, where he has logged over 26,000 hours since 1994, when he began his volunteer service there.
