Love our Neighbor

Dear Grace Church Family,

As I write this, we are fresh from the Presidential debate that aired Tuesday evening.  It is likely that we will be tempted in our spirit to turn our reliance towards our worldly leaders rather than Christ’s call to “love our neighbors as ourselves”.  I invite you to remember that there is no President that is going to deliver us the Kingdom of God.

John Wesley has said, “What religion do I preach?  The religion of love—the law of kindness brought to light by the gospel.  What is this good for?  To make all that receive it enjoy God and themselves, and to make them like God, lovers of all.”  There are strong feelings about this election which means that we have many people who care about our country and its future.  I invite you to be mindful of your communication, remembering that our first call is to be a witness to the love of God.

Our church has been full of meetings this past week with the elected leaders making decisions on behalf of our congregation.  I am grateful to be at the table with so many amazing human beings.  We are in the season of nominations right now.  We are hoping to identify a leader with a Human Resources background that might be willing to serve with our Staff Pastor Parrish Relations committee, a couple more to serve with trustees, and we are hoping to look to an intentional outreach to our college students. If you might be interested, reach out to me at: pastormichelle.gumc@gmail.com.

My questions for this week are:

1. Are there any people in your circle that you would like to lift as a possibility for a leadership position in our congregation?

2. My Dad is coming into town next week.  What are some fun things I can do with him?  He has limited mobility, but loves to learn things, so I am thinking of the Space Center, but want to hear all the ideas!

Thanks for being such a wonderful group of human beings!

As always, I am grateful to be…

With you on the journey,

Pastor Michelle
