Every year during Advent I try to pace myself so that I can pay attention to the people in my life and enjoy each relationship. Social gatherings are a way to recognize that people and relationships matter more than tasks and accomplishments. I have learned the hard way that I function much better if I make a list each day that includes the times and expectations for various events. If I am rushed and unprepared, I am unable to pay attention and to be fully present to the people around me. I pray that you can pace yourself for every important event in your life the next couple of weeks.
