I recently read about a pastor who collects wooden donkeys. This pastor attaches great meaning to the donkeys because early in her career, someone told her, “If God could use a donkey (on Palm Sunday) to carry Jesus into the city, God can use us, too.” This served as a reminder that God can take us all, with our insecurities and flaws, and use us as Christ’s ambassadors to the world. What a great Palm Sunday reminder!
Holy Week offers a great culmination of our Lenten journey! It begins with Palm Sunday worship, which is this Sunday, April 2. Following our 11am worship service, our annual Easter egg hunt is scheduled, and families are invited and encouraged to attend. Later in the week, we offer Maundy Thursday worship on April 6 at 6:30pm. Our Good Fridayservice is April 7 at 6:30pm. Finally, we offer Easter services at 6:30am, 9am, and 11am Easter Sunday. Plan to attend these worship opportunities and ask God to refresh your faith in the process. God is faithful!
This Sunday, the scripture passages are Psalm 118: 1-2 and Matthew 21: 1-11. Pastor Beth will offer a Palm Sundaymessage entitled “One Inch From The Fence.” The title is intriguing, and it makes me want to learn more. I hope you remember to pray for all of us who lead worship, because we depend upon your prayers.
I challenge you to decide now whom you will invite to some or all of our Holy Week services. There are many people who do not have a church home who might welcome an invitation. Even folks who are skeptical about “organized religion” may have a longing for genuine Christian community. All they need is an invitation!
I look forward to seeing you Sunday and during the coming Holy Week!
