I am not particularly knowledgeable about boats, but a few years ago I heard an analogy to faith based upon boating. The analogy is that our connection to Christian community, and to the Holy Spirit, serves as a ballast that offers us stability amidst the stormy times of our lives. This analogy really stuck with me. I have often experienced the stability of the body of Christ in challenging times. In the midst of chaos, God’s Grace reminds us that we can lean into the promises of our faith as a ballast for our lives.
Thank you for your ongoing support of the United Methodist Children’s Home. This Sunday is a fifth Sunday, and we always remember and support the important work of the Children’s Home on these Sundays.
The fifth Sunday also means that our music at the 9:00am service includes a hymn sing. This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the traditional hymns of the church.
The scripture passages for Sunday are Ecclesiastes 3:1 and Matthew 5:13-16. Pastor Gary is planning a worship service that I believe will inspire and challenge us all. His message is entitled “Stewardship of Time” and this message will open our eyes to the importance of how we use our time.
We will also welcome three new members at our 9:00am service. It is always a joy to welcome new people and to share the many opportunities to serve that we offer here at Grace.
Finally, I encourage you to consider joining one of our Sunday school classes or small groups here at Grace. Going back to the ballast analogy, these groups provide stability that we all need, especially during tough times.
I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
