Truth and Consequences

Last Sunday we had 112 people at the 9:00am service and 96 people at the 11:00am service! This is something to celebrate! I was pleased to see many of our preschool teachers and our families with children in worship and during our back to school bash. With school back in session in Brevard County, I pray that our worship attendance at both services continues to grow. We can all help to make this happen by inviting friends and becoming more consistent with worship attendance.

Our parking lot will be much busier in the days ahead because preschool is back in session. Our scouting groups will also be meeting on a more regular basis. I mention this to remind everyone to drive carefully and be aware of young children whenever you come to the church campus. It is great to have a busy, lively campus, and we want it to be safe for everyone.

I recently read a quote from Fr. Richard Rohr. He said that “We cannot attain the presence of God because we’re already in the presence of God. What’s absent is awareness…….” Keeping that in mind, and paying attention to the world around us, can change the way we see everything and everyone.

This Sunday, August 20, the scripture passages are Micah 6:8 and 1 Kings 3: 16-26. I am working on a message entitled “Truth and Consequences.” The 1 Kings passage is especially relevant to our series on justice. I encourage you to read the passage prior to worship and think about the implications of King Solomon’s approach to justice.

Regardless of what is happening in your life, I firmly believe that your presence in worship offers the opportunity to experience the love of God in a new and exciting way. It helps to come to worship seeking new insights, with a curious and anticipatory spirit.

I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
